Me as Mahomes

If I could trade places with a famous person for the day it would be Patrick Mahomes. Patrick Mahomes is the quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs in the national football league. He is extremely athletic, and if I were him I would be in much better shape. It would be a dream to have a physique as as good as his and I would be able to reach physical accomplishments that I’ve never even gotten close to. He is also a millionaire. With the amount of money he has, I could eat incredible food, stay at luxury hotels, and own a stunning home. I would donate money to families and friends in need as well as various charities while still staying a millionaire. Patrick Mahomes is also very influential. Like many celebrities, people look up to him and are influenced by his actions. With that kind of power, I could make a big difference in the world, and change it for the better.

Hawaiian Heaven

It would be a dream to have a perfect day and it would go like this. I would wake up around seven thirty in the morning on the Hawaiian Island, Maui. My family and I will have stayed the night in a five star resort with a view of the beach. After waking up, I will get a quick 20 minute workout in before taking a shower and getting ready to go to breakfast. Around nine AM, my family and I will meet my friends at the nicest breakfast restaurant on the island. Once there, I will order an açaí bowl with bananas, strawberries, blueberries, granola, and honey. Around ten, my friends will come back to the resort and we will all go swimming in the large, luxurious pool at the hotel. There will be chefs that work for the hotel who will provide appetizers such as sushi rolls and dumplings, as well as refreshing drinks like smoothies. At one PM, we will all head over to the beach and board a fancy yacht. This boat will take us to an extraordinary scuba diving location where we will be able to see hundreds of species of aquatic life. After two hours of scuba diving, the skilled chefs on the boat will feed us a late lunch consisting of all sorts of different seafood from sashimi, to Alaskan king crab. Once the yacht brings us back to shore at five thirty PM, we will all go back to our own hotel rooms where we will rest and get ready for dinner. Our dinner reservations will be at seven thirty at the fanciest and most expensive steakhouse in Hawaii. I will order a glorious filet mignon with garlic mashed potatoes. The side dishes will include grilled brussel sprouts and lobster mac and cheese. After everyone is stuffed, my friends will come back to the hotel where we will relax in the jacuzzi and gaze at the stars. They will spend the night and we will go to bed around midnight ending this outstanding day.

Thrilling Twenty-Seven

I would love to be twenty-seven forever. The human body physically peaks around twenty-five years old, so I would be in the best shape of my life. I would be able to set physical goals for myself and actually have enough energy to do them as well as constantly getting stronger. Being twenty-seven means that I will have the ability to stay extremely healthy, and won’t have to deal with back pains. As well as being physically healthy, my brain will also have fully developed and I will have a good memory. I will not easily forget things or have to worry about diseases such as dementia. Being out of college, I can get a stable and well paying job. Before finishing college, most people have jobs with no experience required such as waiting tables. While it is still a job, you can easily be fired and replaced. However, with an education I can get a better job where I will make more money. I will still have enough energy and excitement to attend parties and stay up late on the weekends. This will add fun and excitement to my wonderful life, and will keep my happiness through the roof.

Stumped

It had been nearly twenty minutes since I had opened my IPad and yet I still didn’t have a single thing written down. Time had seemed to stop in the library due to the lack of noise and movement from the people inside. It was the perfect place to finish work, but my mind was filled with nothing. As I looked off into the abyss, I got nervous. My math test was tomorrow and I had a premonition that I would miss a question that I should’ve gotten right. My Nana, who was sitting across from me had her nose in an E-book. She was clad in a gray jean jacket, and had a bandage rapped around her right arm where she had broken it. I stared into her reading glasses which reflected the window behind me. It was silent and I was about to doze off when a sudden bang startled me. I turned to the right to see a pale, elderly man banging on the keyboard of his Chrome Book. He had wrinkly skin and was wearing a soft yellow jacket. What was left of his gray hair had been spiked up to look like a short Mohawk. He muttered out a few curses, and continued to smash his keyboard in rage. I looked back at my Nana who had also been watching the man. When our eyes met, we both giggled. I tried to cover up my grinning face with my arm to not raise suspicion, but I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face. I gingerly reached over to grab my half eaten muffin which I had brought into the library with me. The bag crinkled, and I tried my best to be quiet as to not disrupt the silence. As I took a bite, an incredible idea hit me. I finally knew what to write about.

Rad Reading – September

In September I read the novel The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger. The Catcher in the Rye is a realistic fiction novel about a boy named Holden Caulfield. Holden is a very pessimistic boy who has just been kicked out of his preparatory school, Pencey, in Agerstown Pennsylvania. From there, he decides that it would be better to not go home, and instead heads to New York. He goes out to many bars and restaurants to try to cheer himself up, but he remains depressed. Holden struggles to see the positives in life, and instead points out all of the bad things about the people he meets. He claims that everyone is a phony, but he doesn’t realize that they may not be the problem.

I did not enjoy this book due to the fact that the characters felt static. Throughout the entire book, Holden’s view of the world was the same. Certain quotes were also repeated numerous times throughout the story which made me feel as if I was reading the same thing over and over again. Overall, nothing really changed, and I easily got bored. I could feel my mind wandering instead of being fully immersed in the story like I have been before.

Holden’s kid sister, Phoebe, was my favorite character in the book because of her cleverness and wit. I love how Phoebe is quick to understand things despite being only ten years old. While she isn’t in the book for that long, she displays high intelligence and can see through lies easily. I can prove this with a quote from page 182. “‘How come you’re not home Wednesday?’ she asked me. ‘You didn’t get kicked out or anything, did you?’ ‘I told you. They let us out early. They let the whole-‘ ‘You did get kicked out! You did!’” This quote shows that Phoebe is clever because she is immediately able to tell that Holden is trying to lie to her, and quickly calls him out for it.

My favorite quote in the book is on page 233, “My hunting hat really gave me quite a lot of protection, in a way, but I got soaked anyway. I didn’t care, though. I felt so damn happy all of a sudden, the way old Phoebe kept going around and around. I was damn near bawling, I felt so damn happy, if you want to know the truth.” I like this quote because it’s the one time in the book where he is actually happy. The book is very sad, so this quote stands stands out from the rest of the story. I finally felt as if I was reading something new, and the story needed a moment like this. Even though it’s very short, it has a huge impact.
